Like many fan creations, the mod implements cut materials from Half-Life, ranging from models to animations. In the "Going for a walk" mode, the player can explore the facility before the incident, meet Kate, and thwart a group of terrorists who attack the facility, or go through the Hazard Course for training. The player also meets and interacts with Gordon Freeman and Adrian Shephard briefly on several occasions. At first, the player has no armor protection and is much more vulnerable to damage, but eventually a blue HEV Suit used by the security guards is acquired.Īzure Sheep features many familiar locations from both Half-Life and Half-Life: Opposing Force. The most notable new enemies are the special forces who work for the G-Man. The mod features new weapons, allies, and enemies. She can be healed using a special medical kit item. She is stronger than regular security guards and can perform melee attacks. Kate, voiced by Guzel Allaire, can help the player battle enemies and open doors. Eventually, the two join up and work together to escape the danger. When the Black Mesa incident strikes, Barney realizes that his colleague and love interest Kate, codenamed "Azure Sheep", is in danger, and he must venture into the facility to rescue her. That plan might not have worked out for him, but Prospekt is currently available to preorder on Steam for $10 - in many ways, a more impressive achievement.In Azure Sheep, the player takes the role of one of the generic security guards dubbed "Just Barney". Seabrook, who is just 25, promises that Prospekt will feature 13 new levels, "substantial graphical updates," and a storyline that's "comparable to Half-Life 2: Episode One in length." The game actually started life as job application that Seabrook sent to Valve to prove his mettle as a level designer.
Needless to say, while Prospekt will function as a stand-alone title (you won't need to own Half-Life 2 to play it), it's very much aimed at established fans of the series. It's set in the Nova Prospekt prison during the events of Half-Life 2, with Gordon Freeman cornered in the alien stronghold and Shephard teleported in by his allies, the Vortigaunts, to help out.
The game is somewhere between a sequel and an expansion pack, picking up the story of Adrian Shephard, the US Marine who's the focus of Half-Life: Opposing Force (the expansion pack for the original Half-Life).
Prospekt started life as a job application to work at Valve That's right, Valve has given Prospekt the green light to use graphics and assets from Half-Life 2, making the game - well, not official, but sanctioned at any rate. This is Prospekt - a stand-alone, fan-made game that was built in 18 months by one man, video game designer Richard Seabrook, and that has now been approved to launch on Steam on February 11th this year. No, no, not that one, obviously not that one.
